Thought for the Week 2 June 2019

Thy kingdom come

Jesus’ prayer shows his deep desire for the love of God to reign in every heart. He wants the King of Creation to guide us and keep us on the path of holiness. We show that we are ‘already translated into the kingdom of the Son of his love (Col 1:13) by caring for the prisoners, the sick. If we need more guidance let us turn Jesus’ parable.

Heaven's arches rang when the angels sang,
Proclaiming Thy royal degree;
But of lowly birth didst Thou come to earth,
And in great humility.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

The foxes found rest, and the birds their nest
In the shade of the forest tree;
But Thy couch was the sod, O Thou Son of God,
In the deserts of Galilee.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
 There is room in my heart for Thee. AHB 206

“Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10

The vulnerable children whose lives are changed by the work of Mothers’ Union in Thailand must certainly know that the kingdom of God has come into their lives. The kingdom finds itself fully realized in the restoration of family life nurtured by the members into whose hearts Jesus has come. Thanks be to God
